A dental veneer is a thin layer of porcelain material placed on top of a conservatively prepped tooth to either restore a defect, such as a chip, or to improve a tooth’s aesthetics, like shade or shape.

The illustration shows the process of a tooth undergoing a dental veneer:

  • patient presents with a chipped front tooth
  • the tooth is lightly prepared to receive a veneer
  • once the veneer is made at the lab, it is placed on with a permanent cementing technique
  • the tooth looks good as new
