Preventive Care

Preventive care includes those services provided by our dental hygienists and are recommended at least twice a year.

These services may include:

• Digital radiographs or x-rays
• Medical History review
• Periodontal (gum) disease screening
• Cavity Screening
• Oral Cancer Screening
• Individualized treatment planning and patient education
• Professional teeth cleaning (dental prophylaxis): This service is indicated in patients with healthy gum tissue. Our hygienist will remove dental plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) that forms on your teeth even after careful brushing and flossing especially in hard-to-reach areas. The teeth are then polished to remove stains and create a smooth surface. The hygienist will use any combination of various instruments and/or devices that will loosen and remove bacteria-containing deposits from the teeth.
• Professional Fluoride treatment

Routine preventive care visits assist in preventing tooth decay and gum disease as well as providing early detection to avoid progression of disease. This helps minimize the need for extensive treatments and more costly dental procedures.
